Building a sustainable hospital
Part of Cleveland Clinic’s commitment to sustainable healthcare is to model sustainable practices within their buildings. In London this commitment began with the extensive renovation of the 1950s building the hospital now occupies. Leading UK firm, PLP/Architects, lead on the design, with sustainability and reduction in carbon footprint as a key design consideration. The facade of the former office building and its foundations were largely retained whilst the interior of the building was transformed to create an innovative private hospital with exemplary patient experience at its core.
Committed to the improvement of quality and service
Cotech Biosafe was selected by PLP/Architects as a partner for part of the renovation of the new London hospital’s highly sensitive surgical procedure areas and high-touch point areas; lifts and the main reception area. In line with Cleveland Clinic’s commitment to sustainability, the enhanced protection of these two areas of particular concern, would not only protect the specified areas for an extended period of time but also enhance the protection of these key public and clinical environments from the spread of germs.
The application of Cotech Biosafe in the hospital’s public areas has significantly increased the lifespan of the interior fit-out, reducing the need for regular costly re-fits. In an environment where cleanliness itself is not sufficient, Cleveland Clinic’s high level of quality and service are demonstrated in the clean and new appearance of their public areas.
Airborne dust particles are repelled and unsightly, handprints and finger marks are easily removed due to Cotech Biosafe’s barrier technology, cleaning time is reduced, allowing maintenance staff time to ensure that all areas receive the Clinic’s high standards of care and attention.
Application of Cotech Biosafe in surgical areas was of particular importance to the clinic. The surface coating, enhanced by Microban® antimicrobial technology, protects these highly sensitive areas, reducing bacterial growth by up to 99.9%.
